1968 Ulster ships company
PO EL Jones stood on port side ladder, any other names welcome.

There were no photos taken of the divers rescue as it was done at night in severe fog with half the ship’s company ashore in Alderney when we got the emergency recall.

Ulster had to go in thick fog under radar navigation only, with lookouts on the bridge wings and a seaman dressed in numerous Pussers sea jumpers and at least one water proof jacket under the old Sou'wester, with hat gloves and sea boots. He was tied to the Jack staff on the bow with a head and chest radio set on which was taped in the on position so he could keep his hands warm under all the clothing. He was our eyes and ears for the dash to HMS Vernon pier in spite of harbour being closed due to fog where they would be transferred to Vernon decompression chamber.

The two divers were housed in the diving store aboard Ulster, which was made as high pressurised as possible by opening up divers air bottles and sealing up everything we could of the store.
